Grown up between the Wetterstein and the Karwendel
I grew up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and spent a lot of my childhood in the mountains. Later came the youth group of the German Alpine Club – that is where I learned to climb and did my first ice and alpine routes in the Alps.
I trained in two skilled trades. In a place like Garmisch-Partenkirchen both of them combine well with a working life in the mountains – the one craft does not rule out the other. On top of that comes a qualification in avalanche blasting.
On the road, further afield as well
My home range is the Wetterstein, but I am at home in the Eastern and the Western Alps alike: Großglockner, Ortler, Wildspitze and many more. With guests I have also travelled to Kyrgyzstan and China, among other things on Mustagh Ata – at 7,546 metres one of the high mountains of the Pamir in the far west of China.
Volunteering at the tourist information office
Once a week I sit as a volunteer at the tourist information office in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and give advice on the current state of the paths and routes – and on anything else guests want to know about mountaineering and climbing. That keeps me up to date myself on what is possible and what is not.
